McKinsey & Company released a sobering report on the near-term economic impact of COVID-19 illustrating that the jobs experiencing the biggest negative impact typically pay low wages and have disproportionate concentrations of African-American and Hispanic workers.

Only 2% of philanthropy dollars are allocated to organizations that support older adults. This percentage has remained stable for decades, even as the number of older Americans has continued to increase. Our President & CEO, Gary A. Officer, calls on the philanthropic sector to use the COVID-19 crisis as the impetus to alter their priorities and make a long-term commitment to the older members of our country, and to prepare for the days to come.

Shell Oil Company donated $75,000 to Senior Service America, Inc. (SSAI). This donation will support SSAI’s Creating a Pathway to Employment program for low-income, older residents of Houston who are experiencing long-term unemployment.

The Brookings Institute recently published an analysis of employment and training policy. The analysis had two objectives: first to understand the nature of the problem and, secondly, to survey what we know and what we need to learn about effective job training that addresses these challenges.
